Dear Students:
Last month I wrote an article about setting priorities and time management. This month the topic is "self-care." What does this mean? Self-care is simply that, taking care of ourselves so that we can live a healthy and holy life. As Christian leaders and counselors, we often find ourselves overwhelmed with the burdens and needs of others, as well as our own responsibilities. As a result, we do not have healthy boundaries that promote self-care and a strong Bible study and prayer life. What are some essentials in taking care of our spiritual, emotional, and physical needs?
- Have a daily devotional life of prayer and Bible study.
- Weekly worship.
- Be part of a small group or Bible study.
- Get enough sleep, six to eight hours a night.
- Maintain healthy eating habits.
- Have a scheduled exercise program, three to four times a week.
- Find time to relax, have fun and laugh.
- Have disciplined study habits for class assignments.
- Have an accountability partner or close friend with whom you can share openly.
- Be attentive to the needs of loved ones, with family life being a priority.
- Live each day in a spirit of gratitude and thanksgiving.
- Always be an example of God's love, truth, and peace.
Which of these do you need to work on? Will you begin this week?
"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." 1st Corinthians 1:19-20.
As Campus Pastor, I'm available to talk and pray with you about any personal or vocational concern. To schedule an appointment, please see my contact information below. All counseling is free and confidential, and online students can receive counseling over the phone.
God's strength for the journey,
